Former Deputy Governor of Imo State and PDP senatorial
candidate for Imo East, Eze Madumere, has paid condolence visits to the
families of late Nigerian football legend Henry Nwosu and veteran coach Ramson
Madu, while also offering financial support to assist with burial preparations.
Madumere visited the bereaved families at their
residences in Umukwoma, Umuorie Naze and along World Bank Road, where he was
welcomed by community leaders and sympathisers.
Among those who received him were the Chief Priest of
Naze Autonomous Community, Hamilton Uzoma, and David Iheanacho, both of whom
commended his gesture of solidarity and compassion.
Speaking during the visits, Madumere described Henry
Nwosu as a national sports icon whose contributions to Nigerian football
promoted unity and national pride.
He explained that his personal relationship with the
late football legend motivated him to visit the family and pay his respects.
Madumere also urged the Federal Government to
establish stronger welfare and insurance systems for retired athletes,
stressing that sports heroes who served the country deserve proper support,
especially in old age and during health challenges.
According to him, institutionalised welfare programmes
would help provide medical assistance and financial stability for former
athletes after retirement.
During his visit to the family of Ramson Madu,
Madumere said friendship and shared passion for sports compelled him to
personally sympathise with the family.
He disclosed that he met with Madu’s widow, Chioma
Madu, and their four children, encouraging them to remain united and strong
despite the loss.
Madumere also presented financial assistance to both
families to support preparations for the burial ceremonies scheduled for June 6
and June 24, 2026.
The families expressed gratitude for his visit and
support during their time of mourning.
Henry Nwosu, born on June 14, 1963, passed away on
March 14, 2026. He was a former Nigerian international footballer and youth
team coach widely respected for his contributions to Nigerian football.
Ramson Madu, who died in April, was a former
