The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert over counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets discovered in Nasarawa and Kano States.

According to the agency, Promasidor Nigeria — makers of Cowbell — confirmed the fake products mimic the original brand’s name, packaging, and NAFDAC registration number, but were last legitimately produced in September 2023.

NAFDAC says the counterfeit versions pose serious health risks, including toxic chemical exposure, allergic reactions, organ damage, and even death. Vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are at greater risk.

Key signs of the fake product include:

  • Contents not resembling milk
  • Old PNG artwork packaging
  • April 2025 production date
  • Ink-printed batch details instead of laser printing
  • Coding printed in the wrong area
  • Manually sealed and cut sachet edges

The agency has directed nationwide surveillance to remove the products and urges the public to purchase only from licensed suppliers, check authenticity, and report suspicious items via NAFDAC hotlines, email, or its Med-Safety app.
