The National Leader of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP), Malam Nasir El-Rufai, alongside the party’s National Chairman, Shehu
Musa Gabam, recently paid a significant visit to the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque,
the national headquarters of the Izalah movement (JIBWIS) in Utako, Abuja. The
visit, which took place during an ongoing Tafsir session, further solidifies
the growing relationship between the political and religious leadership in
Nigeria.
The session, which was led by the Secretary-General of
JIBWIS Nigeria, Sheikh Kabir Gombe, and renowned scholar Ahmad Sulaiman,
provided the perfect backdrop for discussions on peace, unity, and governance.
Sheikh Dr. Abdullahi Bala Lau, the National Chairman of JIBWIS Nigeria, and
other prominent members of the movement extended a warm reception to El-Rufai
and his delegation.
Malam Nasir El-Rufai, widely known for his strong
association with Islam, has always been committed to fostering positive
relationships with religious scholars and organizations. His deep love for the
faith and continuous collaboration with Islamic leaders has earned him
admiration from many, though at times it has sparked debates in political
circles. This visit further emphasizes his commitment to strengthening ties
with Nigeria’s religious institutions as a key pillar in his political journey.
The significance of the visit is underscored by its
symbolic role in mending fences between political and religious leaders,
particularly as Nigeria grapples with challenges of unity, peace, and
governance. El-Rufai and Gabam expressed their hope that the collaboration with
respected Islamic scholars and organizations like JIBWIS would foster a better
Nigeria.
During the visit, both El-Rufai and Gabam solicited
for the prayers and support of all Nigerians of good conscience. They called
for a collective effort to rescue Nigeria from the current administration of
the All Progressives Congress (APC), which they claim has ridden to power using
religious sentiments. El-Rufai urged Nigerians to join the SDP movement, which
seeks to bring about change through unity and good governance.
The visit to the Umar Bin Khattab Mosque marks another
strategic step in the SDP’s bid to build alliances with influential groups, as
they prepare for future political engagements. With the growing collaboration
between political and religious leaders, the SDP hopes to chart a new course
for Nigeria’s political landscape, grounded in the values of justice, peace,
