The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commended the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on its relentless efforts in
ensuring that economic and financial criminals are brought to
justice and towards a more prosperous economic growth of the
country.
The Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area
Command, Comptroller J.O. Adelaja gave the commendation on Thursday, February
27, 2025 when he led a delegation of NCS top officers in the
zone on a familiarization visit to the Acting Zonal Director,
Ibadan Directorate of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of EFCC, ACE 1 Hauwa Garba
Ringim.
Adelaja noted that the EFCC, over the years, has
“demonstrated commitment to national security, rule of law, and economic
integrity in tackling financial crimes, money laundering, and illicit trade
activities that undermine the economic growth of the country,” and disclosed
that the NCS acknowledged “the Commission’s unabated efforts to combat and
curb corruption.”
Speaking further, he stated that
NCS’ collaborative with the EFCC remained vital in identifying,
investigating and prosecuting those who commit financial
crimes “and smugglers who exploit the nation’s borders and trade systems
for illegal activities.” He called for enhancement of intelligence
sharing, operational coordination, and capacity building between both.
In her response, Ringim stated that the
EFCC, under the leadership of Ola Olukoyede, was poised to collaborate
with NCS in combating economic and financial
crimes towards ensuring a safer and more prosperous Nigeria. She encouraged
the NCS to intensify efforts against smuggling and illegal wildlife
trafficking, as they posed serious economic crimes.
