Ned Nwoko has openly criticized the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party leadership of betraying him
after allegedly failing to fulfill a promise of an automatic senatorial ticket.
The senator representing Delta State North defected
from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC earlier in 2025, citing
unresolved internal crises and growing divisions within his former party as
reasons for his departure.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Nwoko
revealed that before joining the APC, he held discussions with the party’s
former National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. According to him, Ganduje assured
him of an automatic ticket if he agreed to defect to the ruling party.
Nwoko said he relied on that assurance when making the
politically significant move from the PDP to the APC. However, he claimed the
agreement was later abandoned after former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
also joined the APC months later.
The senator alleged that Okowa received preferential
treatment from party leaders and eventually secured the APC senatorial ticket
for Delta North.
At the APC Delta North primary election, Okowa
recorded a sweeping victory with 113,309 votes, while Nwoko managed only 2,612
votes. Rejecting the outcome, Nwoko insisted the exercise was manipulated and
did not reflect a fair democratic process.
The development has further intensified political
tensions within the APC in Delta State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
