The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial
District, Senator Ned Nwoko, has commended President Bola Tinubu over the
commencement of the second Niger Bridge access road and the reconstruction of
the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the
commendation is contained in a message on the project addressed to Tinubu by
Nwoko in Abuja on today, Monday 24, 2025.
Nwoko, a member of the Senate Committee on Works, said
the projects were of immense strategic importance, not only for the South-South
and South-East regions but for the entire country.
He also said that by prioritising their execution, the
Tinubu-led administration had reaffirmed its commitment to economic
integration, national cohesion and infrastructure renewal.
Nwoko said, “These projects are of immense strategic
importance, not only for the South-South and South-East regions but for Nigeria
as a whole.
“By prioritising their execution, your administration
has reaffirmed its commitment to economic integration, national cohesion, and
infrastructural renewal.
“The Asaba-Benin Expressway, in particular, has been a
major source of concern due to its dilapidated state and the severe hardship it
has imposed on commuters and businesses.
“As a senator representing Delta North, I have
persistently engaged the Federal Ministry of Works on this matter, advocating
for urgent intervention.
“It is gratifying to see that these efforts, backed by
your leadership’s responsiveness, have resulted in tangible progress, with the
project duly accommodated in the national budget.”
The lawmaker also said that the urgency of
rehabilitating federal roads had also been reinforced at the legislative level.
He added, “The Senate, under the leadership of Sen.
Godswill Akpabio, has recognised the dire state of federal roads nationwide
and, as a matter of national importance, passed a resolution mandating their
maintenance and rehabilitation.
“The Senate Committee on Works, where I serve as a
member, has taken a firm position that all national roads must be reconstructed
and revitalised.
“This is to boost economic activities, reduce
accidents, and ensure safer, more efficient transportation across the country.
“In light of the nation’s current fiscal constraints,
we feel deeply grateful that our region is among the first to receive this
much-needed intervention.”
Nwoko also commended the Minister of Works, Mr David
Umahi, for his hands-on approach and commitment to delivering quality road
infrastructure across the country.
“As a representative of my people, I have taken it
upon myself to expedite these critical projects, knowing their far-reaching
benefits.
“The progress we celebrate today is not just a
personal milestone but a collective triumph for our region.
”I look forward to continued collaboration with your
administration in advancing initiatives that will uplift our people and drive
sustainable development,” the lawmaker added.
Nwoko wwas elected senator on the platform of the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP), but recently defected to the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC).
