The game of netball is set to enjoy some massive
development in the South Western region of Nigeria.
This is after 50 participants started a coaching course, organised by the
National Institute for Sports NIS Lagos in collaboration with the Nigeria
Netball Federation, NNF.
Speaking during the opening of the training yesterday 10 March 2025 at the
National Stadium Lagos, the Director General of NIS, Professor Olawale
Moronkola stated the training will ensure growth of the sports as it will now
be incorporated into the curriculum of the Institute.
He also explained that a manual would be produced to create
awareness for the development of the sports.
“This not just a collaboration between the National Institute for sports
and the Netball Federation, but an effort to increase
interest in Netball to produce more coaches throughout the
country,” Professor Moronkola stated.
In his remarks, the president of NNF Toyin Aluko expressed the Federation’s
willingness to spread the developmental programme nationwide.
” We are happy to be collaborating with NIS to take
Netball to all the parts of the country. We have started with the
South West, but there are plans to take it to the six geo-political zones of
Nigeria. We thank the Director-General National Institute for sports Professor
Olawale Moronkola for his support and magnanimity in agreeing to
host the clinic. This is a new dawn for Netball development,” he explained.
The clinic which ends on 14 March 2025 is organised under the aegis of the Association
of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria.
