The National Sports Commission Nigeria (NSC) has
reaffirmed its support for Favour Ofili, urging her to remain committed to
Nigeria following the rejection of her request to switch allegiance to Turkey.
Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, made an
emotional appeal, describing Ofili as a valued national talent and encouraging
her to return to the country’s athletics fold.
He emphasized that Nigeria remains ready to provide
the necessary support for her development, particularly with a view to future
international competitions, including the Olympics.
Olopade acknowledged the challenges athletes face when
making career decisions but stressed that the commission is committed to
creating an environment where athletes can thrive and reach their full
potential.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration
between sports authorities and stakeholders to ensure improved welfare,
resources, and institutional backing for Nigerian athletes competing on the
global stage.
The renewed call underscores Nigeria’s desire to
retain top talents and strengthen its presence in international athletics.
