For NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, the task of
repositioning Nigerian sports has no time restrictions. He works at 9pm with
the same gusto he would deploy at 9am. These pictures tell the story.
This isn't some leisure outing at night. You would
think it was some night hangout with friends, but this is actually Dikko at the
practice pitch of the MKO Abiola National Stadium fielding a mini-demonstration
on a facility that should boost the operations of the venue.
At about 8.30pm when Dikko made for his car, members
of his team and staff thought it was time to go home. They were used to the
chairman holding meetings till late in the bid to drive home his vision and
mission for the Commission, and this would be the earliest time they would be
leaving the office, but Dikko had other ideas. He beckoned on everyone in the
direction of the practice pitch. There Mr. Tunji Akande made a
mini-demonstration of a technology (drone) that could be deployed at
night.
This sounded appealing to the NSC helmsman who
has as part of his immediate goals, to ensure that the MKO Abiola National
Stadium becomes world-class in every sense of it. This should spark his quest
to litter the nation with sporting facilities that will meet global standards.
Meanwhile, a later date has been scheduled for the proper presentation by
Akande.
The task of creating the sports economy is not an easy
one as it would need to rework the sporting ecosystem and create some shift in
perception and approach. So Dikko has rolled up his sleeves. Not even peach
darkness can stop him. The assignment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is of
gargantuan proportion and Dikko has embraced it head-on.
Night or day, the inscription on his forehead is MEN
(MAN) AT WORK. To him, success is non-negotiable!
