The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC),
Mallam Shehu Dikko , has honored his promise to donate ?10 million to the Super
Eagles B team following their resounding 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black
Galaxies in Uyo.
The win secured Nigeria’s spot in the 8th African
Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for February 2025.
The pledge, originally suggested by NSC Director
General Hon. Bukola Olopade before the high-stakes match, was later taken up by
Mallam Dikko as a gesture of solidarity and support.
“Before the game, I made a personal pledge to reward
the team if they emerged victorious,” Hon. Olopade revealed. “When I shared
this with Mallam Shehu Dikko, he immediately applauded the idea but insisted on
making the donation himself as a sign of appreciation for the players’
efforts.”
Hon. Olopade praised the chairman’s leadership,
saying, “It was a heartfelt moment that truly shows his passion for Nigerian
football and the athletes who represent our country. His generosity has further
inspired the team, and we are incredibly grateful for his leadership.”
The Super Eagles B thrilled a packed Godswill Akpabio
International Stadium with a dominant first-half display. Goals from Sodiq
Ismaila, Nduka Junior, and Saviour Isaac in the 18th, 21st, and 25th minutes
respectively, left the Black Galaxies trailing. Although Stephen Amenkona
netted a consolation goal for Ghana in the 71st minute, Nigeria maintained
control to claim a well-deserved victory.
The 2025 CHAN, which exclusively features players
competing in African leagues, will take place from February 1 to 28, co-hosted
by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
