Nigeria’s sporting landscape is witnessing a

Commission (NSC), Nigerian sports are no longer just about participation—they

The latest milestone comes from table tennis, where
Aruna Quadri and Fatima Bello have secured their spots at the 2025
ITTF World Cup.
Their qualification, earned through outstanding
performances at the ITTF Africa Cup in Tunis, is yet another testament to
Nigeria’s rising status in global sports. Quadri will now face Ylane Batix,
while Bello takes on Hana Goda in their respective semifinal clashes.
But table tennis is just one piece of the puzzle.
Across cricket, badminton, and basketball, Nigerian athletes are defying

The Nigerian U19 women’s cricket team recently pulled
off a stunning feat by securing automatic qualification for the U19 Cricket
World Cup, taking down established cricket giants in the process.
In badminton, Nigeria clinched third place at the
African Senior Badminton Championship, a performance that signals the country’s
growing presence in the sport.
Meanwhile, D’Tigers, Nigeria’s men’s basketball team,
staged a dramatic comeback in the AfroBasket qualifiers—bouncing back from
three consecutive losses to win their next three games and secure a place at
the 2025 tournament in Angola.
These victories are not mere coincidences. According
to NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, they are the results of a deliberate
strategy to build a sustainable sports ecosystem.
“Our vision is to create an environment where Nigerian
athletes consistently compete and triumph on the world stage. What we’re
witnessing now is just the beginning,” Dikko stated.
Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade echoed this
sentiment, emphasizing the Commission’s unwavering support for athletes and
federations.
“These achievements reflect the hard work, resilience,
and talent of our athletes. At the NSC, we are committed to ensuring that
Nigerian sports continue to rise, breaking barriers and setting new records,”
he said.
From the table tennis courts of Tunis to the cricket
pitches, badminton courts, and basketball arenas, Nigerian sports are thriving
like never before.
The NSC’s leadership is proving that with the right
structure, investment, and belief, Nigeria can become a true powerhouse in
global sports.
