Victor Osimhen played a key role as Galatasaray
secured a historic fifth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title, extending their
dominance over fierce rivals Fenerbahce.
Galatasaray sealed the championship with one game
still left to play, finishing four points ahead of Fenerbahce after a
commanding 3-0 derby victory over their long-time rivals last month.
Powered by the impressive form of Osimhen, Galatasaray
also booked direct qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The
Istanbul giants enjoyed a memorable European campaign this year, reaching the
knockout stages and earning praise for their stunning victory over Juventus
along the way.
The title marks Galatasaray’s 26th league crown,
further cementing their status as Turkey’s most successful football club. It is
also the first time since the late 1990s that the club has managed to win five
straight league championships.
Meanwhile, the disappointment continued for
Fenerbahce, whose wait for a league title has now stretched to 12 years — the
longest drought in the club’s history. The frustration following their derby
loss to Galatasaray led to swift changes behind the scenes, with both the
club’s head coach and sporting director dismissed the following day.
