Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the political platform that propelled him to national prominence as a senator and later as governor.

Adeleke made the announcement late Monday via a post on his official X handle, where he also shared a copy of his resignation letter dated November 4, 2025. The letter was addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State.

Citing the prolonged turmoil within the party’s national leadership, Adeleke stated:

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

The governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him the platform to serve in two major capacities — first as Senator for Osun West (2017–2019) and later as Governor of Osun State.

The attached letter also confirmed that the ward chairman received his resignation on November 4. However, Adeleke did not reveal which political party he plans to join next, leaving observers speculating as the 2026 governorship election approaches.

Adeleke’s Political Timeline

  • Senator (2017–2019): Won the Osun West senatorial by-election in 2017.
  • Governor (2022–present): Assumed office on November 27, 2022, after defeating incumbent Gboyega Oyetola in the 2022 governorship election.
  • Resignation (2025): His abrupt exit from the PDP marks a major shift in Osun’s political landscape and intensifies anticipation over his next political move.
