The young lady was last seen on Tuesday, December 3,
when she left her home in Kibamba, Dar es Salaam, to go to work but failed to
return.
Sophia, Magdalena's mum, said that on the day of the
incident, she was called by the husband of the deceased, Kenan Mwandalima,
informing her that his wife was not available and her whereabouts were unknown.
"Her husband called me and asked me if Magdalena
was at my house because he has not seen her," said the mother.
"The family began efforts to look for Magdalena
in various places while trying to understand the circumstances that caused her
disappearance," Sophia added.
She said that when they arrived at her home, she
questioned her husband about what had happened and why he did not take
immediate action when he saw that his wife was not home.
"I saw an area cultivated with vegetables and
sugarcane, but the side of it seemed to be weeded, and then I moved to check. I
found myself stepping on a place and it was pressing, so I told my younger
brother," said Sophia.
After seeing that, she said she had to move to the
cultivated area because it showed that it had not been cultivated for many
days.
She found herself stepping on a place pressing like a
mattress when he took a further step.
"When we saw that, we had to call the security
agencies, and they ordered it to be exhumed. That was when my daughter's body
was brought out and wrapped in a sheet.
After Magdalena's body was found, her husband was
arrested by the police for questioning.
Magdalena's mother said she was never informed by the
deceased that she had any problems with her husband.
"His silence has made us unable to understand the
cause of his death because no one knows the reason for the murder, even just
feeling it," said the mother.
In another story, 19-year-old Sharon Atieno was discovered
dead after she left home to make a call on Thursday, November 7.
Her friend and roommate reported that the deceased was
only worried about her mother's death anniversary.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) launched a probe into her demise.
