The immediate past deputy governor of Edo State,
Philip Shaibu says God used former governor Godwin Obaseki to reunite him with
his political father, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
Shaibu said he joined the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, due to his loyalty to Obaseki but reunited with Oshiomhole and the All
Progressives Congress, APC, after their fallout.
A face-off between Shaibu and Obaseki led to the
impeachment of the former deputy governor by the Edo State House of Assembly.
But, an Abuja Federal High Court had upturned the
impeachment and reinstated Shaibu despite the face-off with Obaseki.
Following the face-off with Obaseki, Shaibu had
returned to the APC and worked for the emergence of Monday Okpebholo as
governor in the governorship election.
Speaking with Channels Television, Shaibu said: “I was
part of the young guys that formed APC, I started from ACD, AC, and APC. And
because of my loyalty, I went with my governor to PDP not because I wanted to,
when I said that I was scolded by the national body of PDP.
“Because of him, I left APC and I returned back to the
party because of him.
“My excitement is that God used him for me to reunite
with my father (Oshiomhole), it’s because of Obaseki I had a quarrel with him.
“That fight caused me about 20 percent of my original
supporters but from my fight back, I gained the 20 percent back and have gotten
more. APC has benefitted from my going to PDP.”
