In a spirited Grade A friendly, Plateau United Queens fell 5-1 to Nasarawa Amazons, who
displayed their readiness for the new NWFL season.
Queens nearly struck first when Deborah’s dangerous
cross in the opening minute missed finding the back of the net, setting the
tone for a lively start.
Deborah continued pressing, testing the Amazons'
defense, but her attempts, including a close shot in the 3rd minute, couldn’t
find the target.
The Amazons opened the scoring in the 10th minute,
capitalizing on early pressure.
However, the
Queens quickly responded.
In the 23rd minute, a well-built play from the back,
initiated by Rahab and aided by Agnes’ movement and Blessing’s vision, led to
an own goal by an Amazons defender, leveling the score 1-1.
Despite the Queens’ efforts, Nasarawa Amazons retook
the lead in the 31st minute and maintained control.
Halftime saw
the Queens trailing 2-1, and the Amazons intensified their attack in the second
half, adding three more goals, with strikes in the 51st, 61st, and 71st
minutes, to seal a comprehensive 5-1 win.
For the Queens, this encounter served as valuable
experience, showing promise and determination as they continue to grow in their
first year together
