The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has apprehended
two suspected cult members and recovered a firearm during an operation in Ondo
town.
The arrests were carried out on April 11, 2026, by
operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, acting on intelligence
provided by a local security group known as the Ondo End Miscreant Group.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the
suspects—identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi—are linked to the Eiye
and Aiye confraternities, groups often associated with violent clashes in the
state.
Authorities also connected them to a cult-related
disturbance that occurred on April 9 within the premises of Adeyemi Federal
University of Education, where rival factions reportedly engaged in a
confrontation that disrupted public peace.
Following their arrest, the suspects reportedly
cooperated with investigators and led security operatives to a suspected Aiye
cult hideout in the Oka Garage area of Ondo town. A search of the location
resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol believed to have been
used in criminal activities.
The police confirmed that the suspects remain in
custody as efforts continue to track down other fleeing members and recover
additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal,
reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other crimes,
assuring that those involved would face justice.
He also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for
providing timely intelligence and encouraged residents to support security
agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
Lawal further expressed appreciation to the
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for continued leadership and
support in strengthening operations across the state.
