The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck
conveying suspected explosive materials during a stop-and-search operation in
Saki, Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s Public
Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the interception followed credible
intelligence received by operatives.
According to the statement, police officers stopped
the truck in Saki, secured the suspected explosive items, and took them into
custody for further action.
“Upon being briefed on the development, the
Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, ordered a comprehensive
investigation into the incident,” the statement said.
It added that specialised personnel from the Explosive
Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and
Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were immediately deployed to safely secure the materials
for safekeeping and forensic examination.
The police said a detailed forensic analysis has
commenced, alongside an extensive investigation to determine the exact nature
of the materials and their intended use.
The driver of the truck has been taken into custody
and is reportedly cooperating fully with investigators.
The Commissioner of Police also commended the
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership and support
in strengthening proactive, intelligence-driven policing across the country.
The command reassured residents of Oyo State of their
safety and urged the public to remain calm.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to
the protection of lives and property. Members of the public are therefore urged
to remain calm, as there is no cause for panic,” the statement said, adding
