Nigeria Police Reactivate Tinted Glass Permit Portal — Here’s How to Apply

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reactivated its Tinted Glass Permit (TGP) issuance system, allowing motorists to apply for permits online via possap.gov.ng. The move follows widespread complaints about police harassment over the use of factory-fitted tinted windows.

In a statement on Wednesday, the police said the new digital platform is secure, user-friendly, and aims to boost transparency, public trust, and national security.

“The initiative is designed to accommodate legitimate use of tinted glass while preventing misuse for criminal activities such as armed robbery and kidnapping,” said the NPF, adding that the system also supports law enforcement investigations and identification of authorised users.

Grace Period and Enforcement

The NPF has given a 30-day grace period, starting May 1, 2025, for all vehicle owners to comply. Enforcement will begin after the window closes. Officers found harassing or extorting motorists during this period will face disciplinary action.

Application Process (Online & In-Person)

Online Application:

1.     Visit possap.gov.ng and click "Request a Service".

2.     Choose your application type: Individual or Corporate/NGO.

Final Word

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urged the public to embrace the reactivated system, saying it aligns with the NPF’s citizen-focused and technology-driven vision for a safer Nigeria.
