A herbalist named Ismail Usman suffered a
life-threatening injury while testing a homemade ‘bulletproof’ charm. On
November 23, an incident took place in Kuchibuyi village, Federal Capital
Territory, Abuja.
Usman was alleged to have chosen a locally made rifle
after fortifying himself with the charm he had prepared, and shot himself in
the stomach. Unfortunately, the charm failed to shield him, causing him serious
injury.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Josephine Adeh,
spokesperson for the FCT police command, confirmed that the police got a
distress call from a citizen regarding the event. She stated that cops from the
Byazhin Division arrived at the site and transported Usman to Kubwa General
Hospital.
Adeh also stated that due to the severity of his
injuries, he was later taken to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, where
specialists are working feverishly to save his life.
She stated, “A distress call from Shandam Michael
recounted a disturbing incident involving Ismail Usman, a local herbalist known
for his unusual methods. In a foolish attempt to test the effectiveness of a
self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm, Usman shot himself in the stomach with a
shotgun. “Unfortunately, the charm failed to shield him, causing
life-threatening injuries.
Officers from the Byazhin Division responded quickly,
discovering Usman in severe condition. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital
for emergency treatment before being moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital
for further treatment.
Following the incident, authorities conducted a
comprehensive search of Usman’s residence, recovering the makeshift pistol and
a variety of charms used in his irresponsible experiment.
According to Adeh, Usman will face charges for
unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, both of which contravene
Section 231 of Northern Nigeria’s Penal Code.
She stated, “Investigations are ongoing, and Usman is
expected to face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted
suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
“Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Olatunji Disu,
condemned the incident, highlighting the dangers associated with illegal
firearms.”
