Katsina State has reached another milestone in its
push for improved electricity supply, as the Minister of Power, Joseph
Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commissioned the newly
completed 120 MVA, 132/33 kV Transmission Substation in Kankia Local Government
Area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the
Minister described the project as a key part of the Federal Government's
efforts to strengthen the national grid and expand electricity transmission
capacity across the country. He reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu's
administration's commitment to delivering critical power infrastructure that
ensures electricity generated nationwide is efficiently transmitted to homes,
businesses and industries.
Governor Radda hailed the completion of the substation
as a landmark investment in the state's power infrastructure. He noted that the
facility, which has two 60MVA transformers with a combined capacity of 120MVA,
will significantly reinforce Katsina's transmission network and enable greater
volumes of electricity to reach consumers.
The governor stressed that reliable electricity is the
backbone of economic growth, industrialisation and improved public service
delivery. He added that the project will complement the state's expanding
renewable energy programme while boosting key sectors such as agriculture,
agro-processing, commerce, education and healthcare.
Radda thanked President Tinubu for approving the
project and commended the Minister of Power and the Transmission Company of
Nigeria (TCN) for ensuring its successful completion. He also urged residents
of the host community to protect the facility against vandalism, describing it
as a strategic national asset that will serve present and future generations.
