President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday
for a two-nation trip to South Africa and Angola to participate in two major
international summits.
According to a statement from the President’s Special
Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s first stop will be
Johannesburg for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from November 22 to 23
at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. The summit, hosted by South African President
Cyril Ramaphosa, will bring together leaders of the world’s major economies, as
well as representatives from the European Union, African Union, and global
financial institutions.
This year’s G20 Summit carries the theme “Solidarity,
Equality, Sustainability”, featuring plenary sessions on inclusive and
sustainable growth, global economic resilience, disaster risk reduction,
climate change, just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals,
decent work, and the future of artificial intelligence. Tinubu is also expected
to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines to discuss regional peace,
security, and development.
Following the G20 Summit, President Tinubu will travel
to Luanda, Angola, to attend the 7th African Union–European Union Summit
from November 24 to 25. The summit will bring together African and European
leaders, young innovators, and civil society organizations to address shared
global priorities, including climate action, inclusive development,
manufacturing, the digital economy, infrastructure, agribusiness, and the
creative sector. Recommendations will also be developed to strengthen
cooperation between the two unions.
The President will be accompanied by senior officials,
including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance and
Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele
Alake, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, and Director-General of
the National Intelligence Agency Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria
after completing the engagements.
