The national police council last Tuesday confirmed Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive inspector-general of police (IGP), making him the 22nd individual to occupy the office as Nigeria's substantive police chief.
On June 19, President Bola Tinubu named Egbetokun as the IGP to replace Usman Baba.
The council confirmed Egbetokun during a meeting at the presidential villa, on Tuesday.
The council was chaired by Tinubu with the state governors in attendance.
It will be recalled that Egbetokun then a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) served as Tinubu's Chief Security Officer (CSO) when he was elected governor of Lagos State in 1999.
