Outgoing Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice
Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), has formally handed over duties following
President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of the end of emergency rule in the state.
At a ceremony on Wednesday evening, Ibas supervised
the swearing-in of Mrs. Inyingi Brown as the substantive Head of
Service. Brown had been serving in an acting capacity since the resignation of
her predecessor, George Nwaeke. He charged her to extend the same loyalty she
showed his interim administration to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who resumes
office with the end of the six-month emergency period.
In his farewell address, broadcast Thursday morning
across local stations, Ibas highlighted his stewardship, citing the restoration
of calm and public confidence in government as his core achievements. “Peace
was the cornerstone of my administration,” he said, urging the incoming
leadership to build on that foundation.
The emergency rule was imposed on March 18, 2025,
after a deep political crisis paralysed governance in Rivers State. It
suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and the State House
of Assembly, while Ibas was appointed to oversee the state.
With Tinubu’s directive lifting the emergency from
midnight of September 17, 2025, full democratic governance has now been
restored in Rivers State.
