Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor,
Debo Adedayo, widely known as Mr. Macaroni ,
has reiterated his decision to avoid Lagos State Governor Babajide
Sanwo-Olu at public events.
This came in response to criticism from an X (formerly
Twitter) user who accused him of snubbing the governor to gain public favor.
The user wrote,“To d’ifa fun a certain Macaroni who, in an attempt to please
the mob, snubbed the governor of Lagos state. Omo ase.”
Reacting strongly, Mr. Macaroni stated that Governor
Sanwo-Olu holds no significance to him, referencing his painful experience with
the Nigerian Police, which he linked to actions by the Lagos State government.
He expressed his unwillingness to associate with individuals or institutions
involved in his alleged dehumanization.
Mr. Macaroni recounted his ordeal during the 2020
#EndSARS protests when he was arrested, stripped, beaten, and tortured by the
Nigerian Police. According to him, he was subjected to inhumane treatment and
intimidation, with officers warning him against “disturbing the governor.”
“They told me to my face that they could have killed
everyone and no one would know. The plan was to demoralize me and intimidate me
into silence. I survived it, but now they expect me to act subservient? Never!”
he stated.
The actor, known for his activism and vocal criticism
of bad governance, emphasized that he remains deeply affected by the traumatic
experience, admitting to still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder
(PTSD).
He declared,“Yes, the beating is still paining me!
Yes, I still have PTSD! I agree! But I will not compromise, and I will continue
to snub the governor.”
Addressing his critics, he dismissed their comments as
the actions of “slaves” defending their “masters,” urging them to leave him
alone.
Mr. Macaroni reaffirmed his stance against associating
with a government that he believes contributed to his brutalization. He also
vowed to remain steadfast in his advocacy for justice and accountability,
stating,“I am still standing strong, and there shall be no compromise.”
The actor’s remarks highlight his continued resolve to
speak out against injustice, even in the face of criticism and opposition.
