Seplat Energy Plc, in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of its first domestic supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the Bonny River Terminal (BRT) in Rivers State.

In the landmark operation, 12,600 metric tons (MT) of LPG (Butane) were delivered to the Nigerian market, marking a significant shift in the role of the BRT from a traditional export hub to a domestic supply point. This development aligns with Nigeria’s drive to strengthen energy security, reduce reliance on imported cooking gas, and promote sustainable energy solutions.

Boosting Local Energy Infrastructure

The supply forms part of Seplat Energy’s broader strategy to expand domestic gas infrastructure. Two major gas processing projects are currently in advanced stages:

  • The ANOH Gas Plant in Imo State (300 MMscfd)
  • The Sapele Gas Plant in Delta State (90 MMscfd)

Both facilities, expected to come onstream in Q4 2025, will include LPG extraction units capable of producing 120MT and 163MT per day respectively.

By enhancing domestic LPG availability, Seplat is addressing one of Nigeria’s most pressing energy needs—affordable and clean cooking fuel. More than 80% of Nigerian households still rely on biomass sources such as firewood and charcoal, which contribute to deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.

CEO Speaks on Energy Transition

Commenting on the milestone, Roger Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy Plc, emphasized the importance of domestic LPG production in Nigeria’s energy transition.

“Gas and LPG usage is growing rapidly in Nigeria, and reliable domestic supply is essential to achieving energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and improving air quality. At Seplat, we are proud to be at the forefront of this transition, delivering cleaner energy solutions that empower communities and support sustainable growth.”

Strong Growth After MPNU Acquisition

This achievement follows Seplat’s landmark acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) in Q4 2024, now renamed Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU).

The acquisition has already boosted Seplat’s production and reserves profile:

  • In Q1 2025, Seplat reported an 11% increase in total production.
  • Onshore assets averaged 48,618 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in 2024, compared to 47,758 boepd in 2023.
  • The integration of SEPNU added an annualized average of 4,329 boepd, pushing total production to 52,947 boepd.
  • Independently audited 2P reserves surged 85% to 886 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), while 2P+2C reserves rose 125% to 1.217 billion boe.

Record-Breaking H1 2025 Financial Performance

Seplat has also delivered strong financial performance in 2025. According to its H1 2025 results:

  • Average daily working interest production hit 134,492 boepd, nearly triple the 48,407 boepd recorded in H1 2024.
  • Revenue surged 206.5% in Q2 to N939.2 billion, lifting H1 revenue to N2.1 trillion — already 31% above the company’s full-year 2024 performance.
  • Gross profit climbed 204% year-on-year to N751.2 billion, with Q2 gross profit up 18% at N215.8 billion.
  • Pretax profit rose 86% year-on-year to N454.1 billion despite rising costs.

Outlook

With the commissioning of new gas plants in 2025 and continued expansion in oil and gas production, Seplat Energy is positioning itself as a key driver of Nigeria’s energy transition, balancing traditional hydrocarbon production with the delivery of cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions.
