Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised the United
Bank for Africa (UBA) for its 75 years of excellence, innovation, and expansion
into emerging markets.
Speaking at the bank’s 75th Anniversary Dinner in
Abuja on Friday, Shettima described UBA as a symbol of leadership, resilience,
and generational relevance.
“Seventy-five years is not picked up at a supermarket;
it is earned through risk, resilience, and visionary leadership," he said.
He hailed UBA’s success as a result of its focus on
innovation, shifting markets, and generational ambitions, noting that the bank
continues to thrive by "managing not just capital, but curiosity."
Shettima specifically praised UBA’s Chairman, Tony
Elumelu, calling him “one of the finest sons of Africa” and a “dream-maker” who
bridges generations and has earned the trust of even the Gen Z demographic.
“Tony Elumelu has shown that it is possible to build
without breaking, lead without losing touch, and dream without borders,” he
said.
He also commended Elumelu’s wife, Dr. Awele Elumelu,
describing her as a key pillar in the bank’s enduring success.
Earlier, Elumelu expressed gratitude to UBA’s
customers, shareholders, and staff, honouring the bank’s founders for laying a
strong foundation.
Group Managing Director, Dr. Oliver Alawuba,
highlighted UBA’s growth, now spanning 24 countries, with over 45 million
customers and assets totaling N30.4 trillion.
UBA posted a profit after tax of N766.6 billion and
rewarded shareholders with a dividend yield of 14.5 percent, the highest among
its peers.
Looking ahead, UBA aims to establish a presence in
every African country and expand to over 100 countries globally within the next
75 years.
