Calls it his “proudest moment” as he’s honoured for services to sport and charity

Former England football captain David Beckham was officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, describing the occasion as his “proudest moment.”

The 50-year-old football legend, who earned 115 caps for England and starred for top clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and AC Milan, received the honour for his outstanding services to sport and charity.

“It’s quite a moment for a boy from the East End of London to be here at Windsor Castle, being honoured by His Majesty the King — the most important and respected institution in the world,” Beckham told the PA news agency.
“This is without doubt my proudest moment.”

Beckham attended the ceremony in a grey morning suit designed by his wife, Victoria Beckham, the pop star-turned-fashion designer who accompanied him to the event alongside his parents, Ted and Sandra Beckham.

The football star, now officially known as Sir David Beckham, said King Charles was “quite impressed” with his outfit.

“He’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man I know. He inspired quite a few of my looks over the years,” Beckham said.
“I looked at old pictures of him when he was young, in morning suits, and I told my wife, ‘That’s what I want to wear,’ so she made it happen.”

Victoria, who became Lady Beckham following the June announcement of the honour, posed proudly with her husband and his medal in the Windsor Castle courtyard.

Beckham said the knighthood carried extra meaning due to his admiration for the British monarchy.

“I’ve been lucky to win trophies and have a great career, but to receive an honour like this, a knighthood, is beyond anything I ever imagined,” he said.

The recognition caps Beckham’s decades-long journey from football prodigy to global cultural icon, known as much for his influence in fashion, philanthropy, and business as for his free kicks on the pitch.

Beckham was long considered a frontrunner for the knighthood — particularly after helping London secure the 2012 Olympic Games — but previous reports suggested his honour was delayed due to a now-resolved tax investigation.
