A 56-year-old teacher in Limpopo, South Africa, has
been arrested and charged over the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old
student on school premises following a dispute involving a confiscated mobile
phone.
According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the
incident began when the teacher accused the student of using a phone during an
examination and seized the device. The student was reportedly later asked to
return with money to retrieve it.
Police said that upon her return, the teacher
allegedly directed the student to follow him to a restroom within the school
premises, where the assault is said to have taken place.
The suspect has since been arrested and arraigned
before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded in custody.
He is expected to reappear in court on March 25 as
investigations into the case continue. Authorities have not released further
details at this time.
