Leading figures in Nigerian sports have paid glowing
tributes to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu
Dikko, as he celebrates his birthday, praising his visionary leadership and
commitment to transforming the country's sporting sector.
Presidents of major sports federations and other
stakeholders commended Dikko for championing institutional reforms,
prioritising athletes' welfare and promoting sustainable growth across various
sporting disciplines.
Since assuming office as NSC Chairman, Dikko has been
credited with implementing policies aimed at strengthening sports governance,
improving athlete support systems and restoring confidence among stakeholders
in the nation's sports administration.
His leadership style has earned widespread admiration
from athletes, coaches and administrators, many of whom have applauded his
accessibility and dedication to ensuring athletes receive adequate support
before, during and after competitions.
Among those who celebrated the sports administrator
was President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), Engineer Bright
Idahosa, who described Dikko as a visionary leader driving positive change in
Nigerian sports.
"Malam Shehu Dikko has demonstrated
uncommon leadership and an unwavering commitment to repositioning Nigerian
sports. His passion for athletes' welfare and his determination to build strong
institutions are truly commendable. On behalf of the Nigeria Scrabble
Federation, I wish him many more years of impactful service, good health and
wisdom," Idahosa said.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President, Chief
Tonobok Okowa, also praised Dikko for injecting fresh ideas and renewed energy
into sports administration.
"Malam Dikko has shown that
leadership is about service and putting athletes first. His reforms are already
yielding positive results, while his concern for the welfare of our athletes
has restored confidence across the sports community. We celebrate a leader who
continues to move Nigerian sports in the right direction,"
Okowa stated.
AFN Second Vice President, Akuchukwu Aghazu, described
the NSC Chairman as a bridge-builder whose collaborative approach has
strengthened relationships among sports federations.
"His open-door policy, dedication and
genuine concern for every federation have made him a rallying point for
Nigerian sports. We appreciate his relentless efforts in creating an
environment where athletes and administrators can thrive. Happy birthday to an

Director-General of the National Sports Commission and
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 2026 National Sports
Festival, Honourable Bukola Olopade, also paid tribute to Dikko, describing him
as a dependable partner in the ongoing transformation of Nigeria's sports
ecosystem.
Olopade referred to the NSC Chairman as his
"co-pilot" in implementing reforms, noting that their shared vision
is helping reposition sports as a catalyst for national development.
