Tottenham
Hotspur have long been linked with Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher,
failing with transfer bids in the summer, with The Times reporting that a firm offer could be made
before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
Gallagher,
23, has been one of the first names on the teamsheet for Mauricio Pochettino
this season, taking on the captain's armband on occasions, but as an academy
graduate a transfer would be 100% profit against the club's profit and
sustainability accounts.
That means
Chelsea would reluctantly have to consider any offer -- and are reportedly
ready to accept £50 million -- as they look to avoid following Everton and
Nottingham Forest in breaching financial rules.
Tottenham
are expecting offers to sign Pierre-Emile Højbjerg before the
window shuts, and they are planning to use the proceeds to launch a bid for
Gallagher. However, the Denmark international has already rejected Lyon and may
opt to remain at Spurs as a squad player -- despite the need for regular
football ahead of Euro 2024.
