WHAT
IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EAGLES MATCH CHALLENGE AT THE NATION CUP SINCE 1963?
My memorable match of the Afcon was the 1988 AFCON semifinal involving EAGLES vs.
Desert fox of Algeria, where the Desert Foxes met with the Super Eagles in
the last-four stage after seeing off Ivory Coast. (Jln
reporter says)
Algeria
last won the tournament in 1990 - their first and only triumph on the
continental stage while Nigeria have won the title three times in 1980, 1994
and 2013.
The
Super Eagles of Nigeria will hit a major milestone when they face Guinea Bissau
on Monday in their last group match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.
It
is more than making a conscious effort at reaching the knock-out stage. It will
be Nigeria’s 100th Africa Cup of Nations match since the maiden 6-3 loss to
Egypt in Kumasi on 24 November 1963.
Thus
Nigeria will be the fourth team after Egypt (109), Ghana (104), and Cote
d’Ivoire (101).
Super
Eagles defeated the host Ivory Coast on Thursday and will trade tackles with
Guinea-Bissau in their last group A game on Monday at 6:00 pm.
