Super Falcons star, Deborah Abiodun, otherwise known
as Kante among the Nigeria fans has expressed delight over her move to
Washington Spirits FC, Sports247 reports.
Washington Spirits announced the capture of Deborah on
a three year deal on Monday after spending two years at University of
Pittsburgh Panthers, a club joined via scholarship.
Washington Spirit, is one of the leading teams in the
National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) premier teams as they won the 2021 NWSL
Championship and finishing as runners-up in 2016 and 2024.
The Super Falcons defensive midfielder could not hide
her joy for the step up in her career .
Shortly after her unveiling, she said, “I am beyond
thrilled to take the next step in my career by joining the Washington Spirit.”
“This isn’t just a dream, it’s a purpose I have poured
my heart and soul into and ready to give everything I have to the game I love.”
“They are a team who care about a player’s growth and
development, which makes them a perfect team to achieve my purpose, said the 19
year old.
She distinguished herself in her two stays with the
University’s team which is coached by former Super Falcons coach, Randy
Waldrum.
She made 34 appearances for the Panthers and a total
of 10 goals and got selected in the All- ACC team of the season in back to back
seasons.
She will be occupying one. Of the international spot
at the Washington Spirits as her international experience will come handy for
the Spirits.
She once played for Rivers Angels in Nigeria and shone
at the FIFA U20 Women World Cup before leaving the shores of the country.
