President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commissioned three newly constructed mega schools and a fleet of 620 fully electric vehicles and tricycles delivered by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, praising the governor’s leadership as people-centred and transformative.

The commissioning ceremonies were performed at different locations in Maiduguri, where President Tinubu commended Zulum for prioritising development despite the state’s long years of insecurity.

“I congratulate the Governor and the people of Borno State for this transformation. Government is all about people, and Professor Zulum is doing a very good job of caring for people,” the President said.

Education, Infrastructure Take Centre Stage

The President described the projects as clear evidence of effective governance and a model for holistic development at the state level.

The newly commissioned schools are:

  • Mafoni Day Secondary School
  • Bola Ahmed Tinubu Government Day Secondary School
  • Mafoni Primary School

The facilities are part of Governor Zulum’s ambitious 104 Mega School Initiative, aimed at rebuilding Borno’s education sector after more than a decade of insurgency and improving access to quality learning.

Each school is equipped with modern classrooms, science laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and administrative complexes, providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

Electric Vehicles, Airport Terminal Also Commissioned

President Tinubu also commissioned a fleet of 620 electric vehicles and tricycles, a move seen as promoting environmentally friendly transportation and supporting livelihoods in the state.

In addition, the President inaugurated the international terminal of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, ahead of the commencement of international flight operations.

Zulum Reaffirms Commitment to Rebuilding Borno

In his remarks, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rebuilding Borno’s infrastructure, economy, and human capital.

The event attracted federal and state officials, traditional rulers, and community leaders, underscoring its significance.

President Tinubu concluded his state visit by attending the wedding ceremony of the son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, which was held at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
