President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commissioned three
newly constructed mega schools and a fleet of 620 fully electric vehicles and
tricycles delivered by the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara
Zulum, praising the governor’s leadership as people-centred and transformative.
The commissioning ceremonies were performed at
different locations in Maiduguri, where President Tinubu commended Zulum for
prioritising development despite the state’s long years of insecurity.
“I congratulate the Governor and the people of Borno
State for this transformation. Government is all about people, and Professor
Zulum is doing a very good job of caring for people,” the President said.
Education, Infrastructure Take Centre Stage
The President described the projects as clear evidence
of effective governance and a model for holistic development at the state
level.

The facilities are part of Governor Zulum’s ambitious 104
Mega School Initiative, aimed at rebuilding Borno’s education sector after more
than a decade of insurgency and improving access to quality learning.
Each school is equipped with modern classrooms,
science laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and administrative
complexes, providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Electric Vehicles, Airport Terminal Also Commissioned
President Tinubu also commissioned a fleet of 620
electric vehicles and tricycles, a move seen as promoting environmentally
friendly transportation and supporting livelihoods in the state.
In addition, the President inaugurated the international
terminal of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, ahead of the
commencement of international flight operations.
Zulum Reaffirms Commitment to Rebuilding Borno
In his remarks, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation
to the Federal Government for its support and reaffirmed his administration’s
commitment to rebuilding Borno’s infrastructure, economy, and human capital.
The event attracted federal and state officials,
traditional rulers, and community leaders, underscoring its significance.
President Tinubu concluded his state visit by
attending the wedding ceremony of the son of former Borno State Governor,
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, which was held at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.
