The Federal Government says President Bola Ahmed
Tinubu has committed more than ?90 billion to the welfare and
education of Nigerian students across tertiary institutions, through the Nigerian
Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji
Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a courtesy
visit from a delegation of State Commissioners of Information, led by Prof.
Usman Tar, Borno State Commissioner of Information and Internal Security.
Idris said the initiative has provided financial
relief to over 400,000 students, allowing them to continue their
education without interruption.
“The Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu
has committed ?90 billion to NELFUND. Tinubu’s vision is that, on no account,
should a Nigerian child of school age be denied going to a tertiary
institution,” he stated.
He clarified that the intervention extends beyond
tuition fees, with students also receiving upkeep allowances.
“This amount is not for school fees alone but also for
upkeep of over 400,000 students across different tertiary institutions in the
country,” Idris explained.
Commitment to Inclusive Development
The Minister stressed that President Tinubu’s policies
are designed for all Nigerians, regardless of political or religious
affiliations.
“Nigeria under Tinubu is on the path to prosperity. We
are in government to serve the interests of all, irrespective of political
parties,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to judge government initiatives on
merit rather than partisan lines:
“If you will not listen to me because I was appointed
by President Tinubu of the APC, don’t forget that your children need NELFUND to
stay in school, and your people who have cancer need access to the Cancer
Screening and Treatment Centres provided by this government.”
