Uber has launched Uber Safari, a new service
that allows riders to book guided game drives inside Nairobi National Park—the
world’s only wildlife park within a capital city.
The service, accessible directly through the Uber app,
offers a three-hour safari in Uber-branded vans, giving both locals and
tourists the chance to spot lions, giraffes, rhinos, and more just minutes from
Nairobi’s bustling city centre.
Marking its 10th year in Kenya, Uber is repositioning
itself as more than just a ride-hailing platform, targeting the country’s $4.3
billion tourism sector. With Uber Safari priced at about $190 (Ksh 25,000),
tourists can now enjoy a hassle-free wildlife experience, complete with pickup
and drop-off, ideal for visitors with short layovers.
Nairobi National Park, renowned for its unique blend
of savannah landscapes and city skyline, offers one of the most iconic safari
experiences in Africa. Uber’s reserved model ensures upfront pricing, with
bookings limited to riders aged 18 and above.
This launch follows Uber’s Safari experience in South
Africa, where riders can book trips to the Aquila Private Game Reserve from
Cape Town. Both experiences are part of Uber’s Go Anywhere series, aimed
at offering one-of-a-kind travel and leisure opportunities through the app.
Frans Hiemstra, Uber’s Regional GM for the Middle East
and Africa, called Uber Safari “one of our most wild experiences to date,”
adding that it blends convenience with unforgettable adventure.
Beyond convenience, Uber Safari is expected to boost
Kenya’s tourism industry by creating jobs for drivers, supporting local tour
guides, and channeling more revenue into conservation efforts at Nairobi
National Park.
With just a few taps, Uber has turned the classic
Kenyan safari into an on-demand experience—making wildlife exploration as
seamless as booking a ride across town.
