There is unease at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma following the alleged appointments of some senior staff members to strategic positions in the institutions without recourse to due process.

A close source fumed, noting that a university which ought to be governed by laws and regulations has jump-pass statutory procedures to succumb to the whims of the authorities in the appointment of some persons to positions in the university, thereby undermining the very foundations of the school.

The source, who would not want his name in print, accused the disbanded Special Intervention Team (SIT), foisted on the school by the immediate past former governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, of setting the destructive trajectory in motion, by creating the Office of the Head of Corporate Communications, that has no place in the university's law and regulations.

The source added that the sudden elevation of some of these non-academic staff to high positions and above their superiors in the state owned tertiary institution, who passed through all the rungs of the ladder to earn their various ranks, is a misnomer.

Continuing, he claimed that the recently dissolved Governing Council of the university, chaired by Dr. Frank Omo-Ehijele Odafen, perpetuated this cycle of irregularities, by breaching statutory procedures in the appointment of another non-academic staff.

The angst among some senior staff in the university is palpable, as they perceive the latest appointment as inappropriate ranking and a strategic maneuver by a member of the dissolved council to still maintain his grip on the university even after the sack by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Also, the aggrieved co-workers believe that the presence of the staff in one of the key departments is designed by the ex-member of the council to monitor and influence happenings in the university against the interests of well-meaning stakeholders and the state government.

The source further disclosed that some members of the recently dissolved Council still maintained a vice-like grip on the university, with hopes of returning to power in the university in the future.

Concordonline News gathered that the situation has raised tension in the university and is threatening to consume it, unless the state government immediately intervenes to rectify these irregular appointments and manipulations.

The source warned: "The university's future hangs in the balance, as it risks surrendering to maladministration, disaffection among administrative officers, academic stagnation and systemic decimation. The call to rescue this university from the throes of irregular appointments and decay is loud and clear."
