The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria
has extended the registration deadline for the Computer-Based West African
Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2025
Second Series.
According to an update on its official X (formerly
Twitter) handle, the new closing date is Friday, September 19, 2025, two
weeks after the earlier deadline of September 5, 2025.
“The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private
Candidates, 2025–Second Series has been extended to Friday, September 19, 2025.
All prospective candidates are admonished to make good use of this
opportunity,” WAEC stated.
Transition to Computer-Based Examinations
The CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates was first
introduced in 2024 under a hybrid model, where questions were displayed on
computer screens while answers were recorded using pen and paper. By 2025, WAEC
fully transitioned to a computer-based format, reflecting its drive to
modernize assessments, curb malpractice, and align with global best practices.
WAEC has further disclosed plans to fully adopt
computer-based testing for all its examinations by 2026, with ongoing
investments in infrastructure, personnel training, and digital readiness across
accredited centers.
Digital Support for Candidates
In April 2025, WAEC launched the WAEC E-Study
Portal (waec.estudy.ng) to support candidates with exam preparation. The
platform offers access to past WASSCE questions, examiners’ reports, marking
schemes, and performance analytics tailored to help students practice under
real exam standards.
The CB-WASSCE Second Series, held later in the year,
is specifically designed for private candidates and runs separately from
the traditional May/June WASSCE for school candidates.
WAEC has urged candidates yet to register to take
advantage of the extended window before the new September 19 deadline.
