The Nigeria's Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, has congratulated the Nigerian national Under-20 men football team, "The Flying Eagles" for winning the WAFU Zone-B Under-20 championship on Wednesday night, after defeating their Ghanaian counterparts, "The Black Satellite", by 2-goals-to-one in Lome Togo to retain the title they won, two years ago in Niamey, Niger Republic.
Ejidike in an interaction with a group of journalists
in Ilorin on Wednesday, at his residence, shortly after the match described the
Coach Aliyu Zubairu-tutored side as being resolute, following their opening
match loss by 0-1 to "The Young Stallions" of Burkina Faso, before
bouncing back to defeat "The Baby Elephants" of Cote d'Ivoire, to
finish atop of the group, and a progression to the semi final. The Nigerians
came up against "The Young Menas" of Niger Republic in the semi final
They dispatched their northern neighbours 3-1, a result that guarantees a spot on the plane to the AFCON Under-20 championship next year in South Africa, where they would vie for one of Africa's World Cup, taking place in Chile next year.
The final match was against their eternal rivals, Ghana, and the Flying Eagles, who are the defending champions, once again rose up to the occasion, wining by 2-goals-to-one.
Ejidike commends the boys for not letting the nation down, by living up to the long-established pedigree of Nigeria in the competition.
The patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters' Club,
(NFSC) while commending the coaching crew for a job well done also, admonished
the team not to lose focus on the task ahead, which is, to go to the AFCON in
South Africa next year, and secure the ticket to the World Cup Chile.
