The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Nyesom Wike, has warned that land titles belonging to hotels, event centres,
and other public facilities may be revoked if their premises are used for
activities linked to illegal organizations.
The warning was issued by the Federal Capital
Territory Administration (FCTA), which stated that owners and operators of
public facilities must ensure that their venues are not used for gatherings
capable of threatening peace, security, and public order within the nation's
capital.
In a statement released by the Minister’s Senior
Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the
administration emphasized that land allocations within the FCT are intended
strictly for lawful purposes.
According to the statement, the FCTA will intensify
monitoring of hotels, event centres, and other public facilities as part of
broader efforts to support security agencies and protect lives and property
across the territory.
The administration noted that increased surveillance
would help ensure that illegal organizations do not use such facilities to
organize meetings or activities that could disrupt public peace.
Facility owners were also directed to conduct proper
verification of groups and organizations seeking to use their venues and
maintain detailed records of all transactions and bookings.
The FCTA further advised operators, particularly
during the current political season, to engage only with leaderships of
political parties officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) when approving venue requests for political activities.
According to the administration, failure to comply
with the directive could result in severe sanctions, including the revocation
of land titles associated with affected properties.
The warning forms part of ongoing measures by the FCT
Administration to strengthen security oversight and ensure that public
facilities are not used for unlawful activities within Abuja.
