Nigerian music star Davido has revealed a new
direction for his career, stating that he is no longer chasing Grammy awards
but instead focusing on creating music that reflects his African roots.
Speaking on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with
Eddie Kadi, the award-winning singer said he feels fulfilled by his global
achievements, including multiple Grammy nominations and sold-out performances
across major arenas worldwide.
“I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena…
I’ve been to the Grammys three times. The music coming next is very Davido,
very African,” he said.
According to him, the next phase of his music will be
deeply rooted in African identity rather than tailored to Western audiences.
Davido explained that having already gained
international recognition, his priority now is authenticity—making music that
represents his culture and personal style.
He also highlighted his strong fanbase in South
Africa, noting the consistent love and support he receives from listeners in
the country.
Over the years, the singer has collaborated with
several South African artists, further strengthening his influence across the
continent.
With this shift, Davido appears set to double down on
his Afrobeats roots, signaling a return to sounds that celebrate African
culture on a global stage.
