The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a car
theft syndicate in Akure, arresting two suspects and recovering a stolen Toyota
Camry.
Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh disclosed the
development on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, noting that the breakthrough followed a
report by Robert Adeyemi, whose vehicle was stolen during a social event.
According to the report, Adeyemi had parked his Toyota
Camry at an event on Sijuade Street, Akure, on February 14, only to discover it
missing after the gathering.
Following the complaint, detectives launched an
intensive investigation, deploying intelligence-driven strategies to track both
the stolen vehicle and those responsible.
Their efforts led to the recovery of the car from
Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of the vehicle and subsequently
invited for questioning.
Further investigation revealed that the car had been
sold to him by the principal suspect, David Adeyemi, who was later arrested by
police operatives.
Authorities said preliminary findings indicate that
the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle before selling it.
The recovered Toyota Camry has been secured as
evidence, while both suspects have provided useful information to assist
ongoing investigations and have since been charged to court.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended
officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and diligence.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding
lives and property, warning criminal elements to desist or face the full weight
of the law.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and
continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible
information to help combat crime across the state.
