DELTA: Delta State is in mourning following the death
of its esteemed former Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, who
passed away at the age of 77 after a prolonged illness. Utuama, who served
alongside former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan from 2007 to 2015, reportedly died
early Saturday morning in Lagos.
Born on June 5, 1947, Prof. Utuama was a notable
figure in law and academia, leaving a significant legacy in Delta's political
and legal arenas. He served as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
under Governor James Ibori, where he earned a reputation for his unwavering
commitment to justice. As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a respected
lecturer at the University of Lagos, he was dedicated to mentoring future legal
practitioners and advocating for the rule of law.
Although the family has not yet released an official
statement, several close associates have confirmed the news of his passing.
“Prof. Utuama was a man of profound wisdom and integrity; he was a true patriot
committed to the advancement of Delta State,” stated a former colleague.
Hailing from Otughievwen in Ughelli South Local
Government Area, Utuama had been facing health challenges, especially following
the recent death of his wife, Dr. Nelly Utuama. The family is anticipated to
provide details regarding funeral arrangements in the coming days
