The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced
that travellers in the United States who require visas to enter Nigeria must
now submit their applications directly to the Nigerian Embassy in Washington,
D.C., or the country's consulates in New York and Atlanta.
The new directive follows the immediate disengagement
of Online Integrated Solution (OIS Services), the third-party company that
previously managed Nigeria's visa application and submission centres across the
United States.
The policy change was announced in a statement issued
by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Controller of Immigration
Akinsola Akinlabi.
Although the NIS confirmed that the partnership with
OIS Services has been terminated with immediate effect, it did not disclose the
reasons behind the decision.
According to Akinlabi, all visa applicants are to
submit their applications directly through the Nigerian Embassy in Washington,
D.C., or the consulates in New York and Atlanta until further notice.
The immigration service assured travellers that the
affected diplomatic missions are fully prepared to handle the increased
workload and have put measures in place to ensure a smooth transition in the
processing and issuance of Nigerian visas.
To minimise delays, the NIS advised applicants to
regularly monitor the official communication channels of both the Nigeria
Immigration Service and the Nigerian Mission in the United States for updates
on application procedures, appointment schedules and other submission
requirements.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining
efficient and effective service delivery throughout the transition period while
ensuring that visa processing continues without major disruption.
