Nigerian winger Wisdom Fernando has shared his joy
after helping Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko win the Ghana FA Cup. The former
Akwa United player took to social media on Monday, two days after the final, to
express his gratitude and excitement.
In a post filled with emotion and celebration,
Fernando wrote:
“Champions…
What a way to finish the season.
Grateful for every moment, every support, every challenge. This one means a
lot!!
Thank you AKSC…
Wisdom Fernando”
The post included pictures from the final match and
celebrations that followed.
Fernando, who won the Nigeria Premier Football League
title with Akwa
United in 2021, played an important role as Kotoko claimed their 10th Ghana
FA Cup title on Sunday. They defeated Golden Kick FC 2-1 in a thrilling match
at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
The match was tightly contested, but a brace from
forward Kwame Opoku, including a last-minute penalty, sealed the victory for
the Porcupine Warriors. The win means Asante Kotoko will compete in the 2025/26
CAF Confederation Cup.
Golden Kick had put up a strong fight, equalising with
a stunning free kick from Bless Ege after Opoku’s opener. But Kotoko kept their
focus and found the winner late in the game.
Fernando’s time at Kotoko has seen him become a key
figure in their success, and his latest achievement in Ghana adds to an already
promising career.
With this victory, Asante Kotoko move just one title
behind their rivals Hearts of Oak, who have 11 FA Cup wins. For Fernando, it’s
a special moment, another trophy, another step forward.
