The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman
Bitrus Giwa, has ordered a thorough investigation into a shooting by
unidentified armed men in front of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)
secretariat in Enugu on October 10, 2026, at about 2:30 p.m.
The attack reportedly left a man who was repairing a
vehicle parked along the road with a suspected gunshot wound, and damaged the
windscreens of five other parked vehicles. According to the command's
spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, police operatives responded promptly to a
distress report, restored order and rushed the victim to hospital, where he is
receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition. The CP has directed
the State CID to identify and arrest those responsible.
Ndukwe also reported a separate incident earlier the
same day, at about 11:30 a.m., when joint police and military operatives
dispersed suspected NDC members who had gathered in a disorderly manner at the
entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. Preliminary findings
indicate that airport authorities had restricted the party members from
entering the airport in large numbers to receive their governorship candidate.
A misunderstanding reportedly developed among them and turned into a fight, prompting
the security operatives to step in.
