At least 10 persons have reportedly lost their lives in a tragic accident that occurred near the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, in Ondo State on Wednesday evening.

The remains of the victims have been deposited at a nearby hospital morgue.

The Public Relations Officer of the university’s Students’ Union Government (SUG), Mosadoluwa Ajidagba, said the articulated truck belonged to Dangote Cement and was en route Ikare to Akungba when it suffered a brake failure and crashed into the permanent barricade.

Ajidagba said the Students’ Union had repeatedly appealed for trucks to be restricted from passing through the town due to the recurring accidents, adding that Wednesday’s tragedy underscored the urgency of that demand.

He also appealed to students to remain calm, law-abiding, and stay away from the highway for their safety.
