Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain
suffered a shock 2–1 home defeat to 10-man Bayern Munich in their UEFA
Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes.
A brilliant first-half brace from Luis Díaz set the tone for the
visitors before the Colombian turned villain, receiving a straight red card
just before the interval. Substitute João Neves pulled one back for PSG
in the second half, but Vincent Kompany’s resilient side held firm to
claim a famous win in Paris.
Bayern Dominate First Half, Then Lose Díaz
to Red Card
Bayern came flying out of the blocks and were ahead
inside four minutes when Díaz pounced on a rebound after Lucas Chevalier
parried Michael Olise’s shot.
The Bundesliga champions continued to dominate,
slicing through PSG’s defence repeatedly. Aleksandar Pavlovi? went close
before Serge Gnabry struck both posts with a single effort.
Díaz then doubled the advantage, dispossessing Marquinhos
and coolly finishing past Chevalier for his second of the night.
Josip Staniši?
had a third goal ruled out for offside, but Bayern’s joy turned to concern just
before halftime. Díaz was sent off following a reckless two-footed challenge on
Achraf Hakimi, who left the pitch in visible pain. After a VAR review,
referee Daniele Orsato produced a straight red card, reducing Bayern to
10 men.
PSG Push Back, but Neuer and Upamecano
Stand Tall
With Bayern down to 10, Luis Enrique introduced
Gonçalo Ramos and João Neves in search of a lifeline. PSG saw
more of the ball but struggled to seriously test Manuel Neuer, who was
protected by a disciplined defensive line marshalled by Dayot Upamecano.
The hosts finally broke through 15 minutes from time
when Neves volleyed home Kang-in Lee’s pinpoint cross to make it
2–1.
The goal injected new energy into the Parisian crowd
as PSG pressed for an equaliser. Neves headed another opportunity wide in
stoppage time, but Bayern clung on to secure all three points — a statement
victory against the reigning European champions.
Post-Match Takeaways
MVP – Dayot Upamecano:
With Bayern under pressure for most of the second half, the French defender was
immense — composed, commanding, and unflappable. His leadership at the back
proved decisive as the visitors survived PSG’s late onslaught.
Big Loser – Luis Díaz:
From hero to villain in the space of 45 minutes. Díaz’s two goals put Bayern in
control, but his reckless red card nearly cost his side the game. His
suspension will now rule him out of Bayern’s next Champions League fixture
against Arsenal.
