A tragic incident has occurred in Giwa Barracks, where
a 12-year-old boy, Musa Audu Idrisa, lost his life after being accidentally
shot by an eight-year-old neighbour.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday, March
17, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., while the children were playing within the
residential area.
According to reports, the younger child, identified as
Abubakar Inusa, gained access to a loaded Dane gun that had allegedly been left
unsecured by his father, Inusa Mohammed, a member of the Nigerian Hunters
Group.
The victim was rushed to the State Specialists
Hospital Maiduguri but was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were later
released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Authorities confirmed that the firearm used in the
incident has been recovered, while investigations are ongoing into the
circumstances surrounding the case, particularly the alleged negligence in
securing the weapon.
Security operatives also stated that the State
Criminal Investigation Department has launched a full inquiry to ensure
accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
