A tragic fire outbreak in the Gida Dubu area of Dutse
has claimed the lives of two children aged 2 and 6.
The incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday,
March 19, 2026, at Layin Dabinai near Masallacin Malam Babba, where a fire
engulfed rooms occupied by the victims.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa
State confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani
Mahmud. The victims were identified as children of Aminuddeen Abubakar, a staff
member of the Federal University Dutse.
According to the statement, the fire spread rapidly
under circumstances yet to be determined, making rescue efforts unsuccessful.
Both children were confirmed dead at the scene despite emergency response
attempts.
In a separate incident later the same day, another
fire outbreak occurred in the same Gida Dubu area around noon. Preliminary
findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical spark in the
kitchen of a resident, Nura Garba.
The blaze spread to nearby houses, damaging parts of
buildings, including kitchens and roofing materials belonging to neighbouring
residents. However, no lives were lost as firefighters quickly contained the
fire and prevented further destruction.
Authorities have stated that investigations are
ongoing to determine the exact causes of both incidents and to recommend safety
measures.
The NSCDC extended condolences to the bereaved family
and urged residents to adopt strict fire safety practices, particularly when
handling electrical appliances and open flames, to prevent similar tragedies in
the future.
